Rain interferes with Akriti schedules

Someone made the penguin eat 'Veg'
Pune is in grip of rain. This caused inconvenience to the students with their tight and busy schedule of Akriti Sports matches.

The Matches like volleyball and football are completely dependent on the arrival of solar heat.

Badminton - Comp beating EnTC-B

The hero of the day was Ashutosh Maurya from computers beating EnTC-B with great margin. On one hand where Geet (Comp) lost girl's singles match to Shreya (EnTC B), her mix doubles pair with Maurya was won. Amoolya (Comp) showed a great game and won her girls singles match.

EnTC won the boys doubles credited to Saransh but lost another singles match held between Gurpratap (Comp) and Joshi (EnT-B) after getting De-Maurya-lised by Maurya in another men's singles. An excellent performance by Gaurav Kaushik (comp) led to the victory.

First match for Akriti 2011, Mech won

The type of ball used in AIT Cricket matches :) hahaha
The cricket match between Comp and Mech held on August 13, the day before 'Pakistan's Independence day' was lost by Computers.

Mech made a splendid score of 168 which was being unsuccessfully chased by Comp but the entire Comp-Squad collapsed at 143 only.

Joke Point: Indeed Comp initiated with a number 143 - saying "I love you". A good start even with a defeat.

Summing up the tech

After getting over with "Pace-What's your Game" and a declarative statement of Brig. (Retd.) S. K. Lahiri, Director, AIT, that the Pace will keep its dates of opening ceremony unchanged from now on, i.e. 4th of Feb every year, the incharge for sports events, Mr. A. K. Singh, lecturer in Mathematics, and Miss Monika Sharma (TE Comp) Sports secretary (Girls) took a breath of relief on the closing ceremony night.

Soon followed the Tech-Aakriti. The three day war between the branches setteled down on the final night. The closing ceremony was started by screen projection of final CS match (b/w Comp and E&TC) followed by Movie-making shows. And with almost double margin of scores from the runner up E&TC, the Computer students proved that they are the most techie. And the Tech-Aakriti Trophy went to "The Department of Computer Engineering" compensating the loss of Sports-Aakriti Trophy and Culturals-Aakriti (both of which went to E&TC) to some extent.

As planned, came a series of quizes, both internal and external. And finally, the grand opening of the pride of AIT, the "Solutions Tech Fest" was on Feb 21. Hundreds of students all across the Pune and beyond participated from more than 50 colleges and the scenario was an amazing one. Greetings to for a wonderful completion of these events.

After busy 3 days and successful closing of Solutions, AIT Day was celebrated on Feb 24. Many formalities were to be finished this night and the most awaited among them was the "Aakriti Trophy 2011". To almost all the students, it was an assumption as if the sole winner is E&TC, but the shocking news to all was, that trophy was announced being won by Computers. A dream for Computers since long came true under branch heads, Vinay Mor & Himanshu Chaturvedi (boys) and Parina Magu & Tanvi Agarwal (girls).

To be noted that during Aakriti 2010 (last year), Sports trophy was won by Comp, Culturals by E&TC and Aakrity trophy by E&TC. Tech trophy was not provided last year. Even prior to that, Aakriti 2009 was won in joint by Mech and E&TC.

Well, after the AIT Day night celebrations, returned back the normal routine as the Mid-Semester exams were scheduled from March 1. At present, the same exams are in progress.

Fun facts:
1) After bitterly loosing the final match in Basketball against FC Pune, AIT again won the Pace Trophy like previous year.

2) For the first time (as far as our reporters know to the best of their knowledge), Girls entered the dome above the Boys Mess near OBH this year. This was made in accordance of the chess matches under PACE.

3) ENTC-B was an issue during the Sports-cum-Cultural Aakriti and they were allowed to struggle for the Aakriti independently. On the contrary, no one cared that the points divided then became useless when ENTC-B was broken into 4 parts under Tech-Aakriti. A major skip.

4) The Secretaries made it compulsory this time to have subtitles in Movie-Making (PIXELS) due to last year's experience of noise in recording as well as playback of the dialogues and sound effects. Surprisingly, Mech and Comp had wonderful sound recordings. And Comp was the only branch to have SRT file as subtitles. A techy approach indeed.

5) For all the branches, there were two branch heads in Tech-Aakriti. One of them was a boy and the other was a girl. Mechanical was the only team to have both its branch heads as boys i.e. Pradeep Mishra and Nagendra Singh Chauhan. (Click here to view the source).

Outdoor sports matches cancelled - 26 August, 2010

The outdoor Akriti-Sports events of the day were cancelled due to rain. The delayed sports included the Tug-o'-war, Football, Volley (boys) and Volley (girls). On one side, where few teams were disappointed by the delay of their matches, on the other side, the reaction was just opposite. The grooves for the Tug-o'-war that were improved last night under the supervision of the event-sec were again ruined by the rain to some extent. Still, the nature decreased the temperature of the city and brought peace of mind to common man.

Chess - Comp v/s EnTC (B) - 26 August, 2010

Squash - Comp v/s Mech - 22 August, 2010

Today, Comp won against Mech in two matches out of 3 as follows:

Match 1: Comp wins: 3-0
Match 2: Mech wins: 3-2
Match 3: Comp wins: 3-0

In overall, Comp won the third event of the day one after another in the same day.

Cricket - Comp v/s Mech - 22 August, 2010

The record score match won by Comp over Mech finished at about 4 PM. The first inning was played by Mech and Comp made made all out within 49 runs. Comp chased the target of 50 and won in just 3.3 overs. The captain and branch - head of the current cricket champion team are now challenging to repeat the history. Branch head is quite happy with the branch performance of the day with wins in two events. But the defeat in Mens' tug-o'-war forced them to rethink over the strategy.

Tug of War - Comp v/s Mech - 22 August, 2010

The girls' Tug of war between Comp and Mech at 4 PM was Won by Comp. The unlimited time rule was not implemented for the girls' event and time limit was set to 5 X 3 minutes. For the first round, Comp managed to shift the mark to their side about 10 cm. The situation remained same throughout the first round and none of the teams won. Thus, the event secretary reduced the length to be pulled from 2 meters to 1 meter either side. The second round was dominated by Mech by pulling the rope about 30-40 cm to their side but again the round ended with no result. For the last round, rule was decided that on time finish, whichever team has more pull, wins. Comp immediately pulled the rope about 80 cm and even crossed the 1 meter marking before letting the time finish.

Cricket - E&TC (A) v/s IT - 22 August, 2010

In first innings, IT made 159 runs before 11 AM and consumed all 20 overs with last wicket. The second innings started in with splendid beginning of EnTC and it seemed as if they would win. But soon, they started loosing the wickets, although keeping the pace of runs. By the last wicket, EnTC required 3 runs in 7 balls but they lost the wicket on a silly run-out. The tension could be easily seen on the face of branch head. Now EnTC will fight for 3rd position in finals.
